Salinas Valley Comic Con Wrapped Up!

Dec21

The Christmas Season was full of the Force …this weekend… at The Salinas Valley Comic Con in Salinas.

I didn’t have far to schlep my Squid Row wares this past weekend as the con was, literally, a block away from my office. So that was wonderfully convenient… No commute, no hotel, no hassle. The only hiccup on the whole weekend was a nagging migraine (which was mild at times but made for a dismal evening after the con).

It was a great weekend of meeting local comic fans, not so local comic fans, and exhibitors from LA, Salinas, The Bay area and beyond. The 501st Legion (from San Jose) was there patrolling around… and Darth Vader made an appearance on Sunday (Harold was visibly shaken). The turnout was amazing on Saturday (the drizzle didn’t keep anybody away)… and I didn’t even get a chance to have a break from my booth that day until after 3pm (it started at 10am)… ! Sunday was not as well-attended as the day previous, but I was busy doing commissions and Harold was giving hugs and making new pals! It was nice to have a few moments to hobnob with fellow tooner pals (like Ji of HyperGeeky, Ray from Tragic Hero Comics, Vince, Alex “Shoe” Schumacher, Anamarie Morales, everyone at Current Comics, and so many more) and also meeting new ones to stay in touch with (like Josh Trujillo of himself and Jeff Thomas of Pon & Zi)!

Thank you to everyone who visited my table… to those who helped make my convention merry!… and to all those who made the event happen.

Here’s some scenes from the weekend’s fun…

Squid Row Comics will be at Salinas Valley Comic Con this weekend, Dec 19-20th, 10 am to 5pm both days. National Steinbeck Center, Oldtown Salinas.

There will be comic panels, exhibiting peoples like me, that car from the time traveling… people dressed up as fictional peoples and superheroing types… I imagine you could visit John Steinbeck’s things… buy some SVCC swag in the gift shop… have your photo taken with Harold… pick up those last minute Xmas gifts. Yah?

Need a gift last minute?

Well, my wares will be out at the Salinas Valley Comic Con this weekend (December 19th & 20th) at the National Steinbeck Center. If you need some last minute gifts for under the tree or in a sock, drop by. It does cost to get in… 15 bucks for a ticket… but there are 30-ish exhibitors for you to buy from  (for those comic-y persons on your list) and there are panels to sit in on should you want to learn stuff.

What do I got for my table? Squid Row Books, buttons, zines, framed art, prints, I’ll be doing toons on the spot for cash money… what a unique gift, right?

This is an example of the artist sketch card you get at the top level.

“It’s the Hap-Happiest Season of all!” says the carol…

Patches and Harold are hanging out under the Christmas tree. It’s nice that Harold has a buddy to Christmas with… ’tis the season.

Harold did a little bit of his shopping online this year… and he even did a little wrapping today… I wonder what he’s getting Patches for Christmas? This is Patches’ first Christmas with us… and I hope he enjoys the fun.

What did Harold ask for this Christmas? (…besides the “Harold-sized booze bottles”… )    Harold asked for this:

Send a card to this little girl (LINK to news story)
